About this blog

"Go west, young man, and grow up with the country." A New York newspaper editor made the quote famous in the 1800s as a call to adventure. It still embodies the journey to discover uncharted territory, where one can plant a flag to say, "I was here. Look how far I've come." For me, a woman in 2007, it's simply, "Go west." And instead of planting a flag, I'm writing a blog. In B.C., Canada, there's no way to go further west by land, so I will go so far west over the ocean it will become east: Southeast Asia. Discovery means not finding a place no one has gone before, but to discover something for yourself, about yourself, and along the way doing something to change the world for the better: "Go west, young woman, and grow with the world."
