Vicki's Bike for Justice
About this blog
Route: Began and ended at Spooner, Wisconsin, making a loop to Drummond, Superior, Bayfield, Mellon, and Hayward back to Spooner.
Bristling porcupines and soaring eagles, curious deer posting like sentinels on duty, and turtles crossing the road, set the stage for a bike ride through pristine forests along narrow country roads in northern Wisconsin. This ride was my fourth "Jaunt with Jim", conducted by author, journalist and adventurer, Jim Klobuchar, who has put together such adventures over the past thirty-eight years. No longer a cyclist himself on the ride, Jim organizes overnight camping sites on school grounds, meals and rest stops, an alluring route, and offers additional options for participants to enhance the ride. To a non-cyclist, the roughly 400- mile spin over a week's time seems crazy and remarkable. For me, however, it is a journey that transports me from my "normal", sometimes harried schedule, deep into nature, and deep inside myself. This ride is metaphor for another kind of journey of a spiritual nature. Life lessons are set before me like a buffet, and if I follow my spiritual quest, I recognize insights for my life that can be transforming.
