About this blog

For several years I have toyed with the idea of traveling the world. First I had to reach retirement. I started the process by selling my house and downsizing everything. It took lots of selling and donating to get down to a few remaining things that would fit into an apartment in Austin, Texas.

Finally, retirement in May 2012. I spent the summer having a wonderful time with all my extended family and friends. Everyone in the family has their own lives going on, and now it is time for me to get on with mine.

Thanks to everyone for the memories.

I also used the time while in Austin (actually Cedar Creek) to plan my trip. Now it is less than 3 weeks away. I am sure this will be a life changing experience. I cannot really imagine just exactly what it will be like to fly into a foreign country, not knowing anyone, not knowing the language or currency and having no further plans made.

My plans are very uncertain at this point. I will fly into Bangkok, Thailand on a one-way ticket. How long I will stay or where I will travel after that will be decided on a day to day basis. I have no one waiting for me to come home and all my affairs are in order, so I can decide what to do with each sunrise (or sunset). I am free to travel for whatever length of time I choose.

Now that plans have been made for my international adventure I have published this blog for friends and family to follow along.

This blog starts with my travels since May retirement up until now, Dec 2012. I have posted pictures of things I enjoyed with family and friends. I hope you will find this interesting to read until my foreign adventure begins on Jan 9, 2013.

Follow along if you wish. I may post daily or it may be days or longer between posts once I leave the U.S. It depends on the internet connections I have available to upload pictures and posts and the time I have.
