Last time I visited Chile was some three decades ago. Coming from Argentina, trying to get out of the way of the political unrest preceding Juan Peron's return, I opted to make a beeline for Chile and crossed the Andes by train only to find a country frozen in the frightening prospects of change. General Pinochet had ousted Salvador Allende six months prior to my arrival. Even at the impressionable age of 20, I realized that Chile was not a place to stay, but promised myself to return. Little did I know it would take 32 years to do so.
