History Lesson
About this blog
I have decided it is time that my niece (19) and nephew (17), who both grew up outside the US, know a little more about the history of their great-grandparents' and grandmother's country. What better place to do this in than in DC and Virginia. Mind you, it was an eye-opener for me as well, to go over the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address, etc. Particularly in these difficult times, where greed and fear of losing the next election cloud minds, and our dear politicians need to be reminded of the basic tenets behind the USA. In the end, I would like the kids to come out of this experience with a critical and questioning mind. Only a vigilant citizen is a good citizen. It is going to be an interesting trip.
