If you've never been to the gulf coast before I suggest you go and visit it. But only AFTER you have visited all the other coasts in America. The first thing that I noticed was the lack of waves due to the barrier islands. This is not a concept well understood by northwesterners. In the Pacific Ocean when you wade out too far, you won't stop until you hit Japan. The Boat was new and the crew were light hearted and easy to work with. I had a great experience and enjoyed some southern hospitality.
