Himalayas last Shangri La
About this blog
On my last visit in my home town Sockholm, Sweden I realized that I have reached the age of which most my friends have children or are pregnant. Me, not having any motherly instincts and being domestically disabled, felt a bit of an outsider during the endless discussions of nap times, diapers, teething, maternity clothes, kids parties and on and on. Therefore it was a nice breath of fresh air when my friend Karin asked if I wanted to come along on a trek in northern India. The girl whom she was supposed to hike with got pregnant (go figures) and apparently I fit the criteria. I am after all ALWAYS game for an adventure!
So in search of the Himalayas last Shangri la, Karin and I are ready to tie up our hiking boots and steer for the land of the Gods. We will meet in Kolkata, Indias second largest city, and soak in the smells, colors and exhaust. From there we'll catch a overnight train to our final destination: the little kingdom of Sikkim, home to the third highest peek in the world; Kangchenjunga. Located in between Bhutan and Nepal with lush forests and bamboo to snow capped mountain peeks and home to the Himalayan black bear, Sikkim has been called the gate to a wild frontier. This is where the adventure begins!
