"Mwen pati Ayiti" and a few other Caribbean Adventures
About this blog
"Mwen pati Ayiti" ... Four years after leaving the birthplace of Voodoo, Benin, I am departing for Haiti, where the religion as re-rooted itself, its vines twisting with those of Catholicism. Surrounded by crystal Caribbean waters, Haitians have intermingled ancient African traditions with those that were imposed upon them during slavery, creating a unique creole culture. Today, despite being only the second nation to be victorious in its fight for independence from Europe, Haiti has deteriorated to become the "poorest" nation in the Western Hemisphere. For one year, I will be working on a youth development project, supporting young Haitians in their quest to find employment - not an easy task. While this position will certainly expose me to Haiti's economic devastation, I expect that I will have innumerable opportunities to unearth Haiti's riches as well ...
Oh, and I will likely have other Caribbean adventures as well!
