10 days in Burma
About this blog
I've long been curious to visit Burma, a country that to a large extent has been closed to the outside world for a long time and has only recently opened up to independent travellers.
I guess the attraction lies in the lure of a country that sees so few tourists compared to the neighboring countries with closely related cultures based on Therevada Buddhism. In that respect its something of a throwback to earlier times.
There is the moral issure upon whether its correct to visit a country labouring under a military junta and that tourist money helps sustain the regime economically, but that argument is balanced by the one that foreign tourists are one of the few outlets left for the Burmese people to express their frustration.
