Egypt Stopover: Meet the Sphinx

On our way back from Saudi Arabia we had a 6 hour stopover in Egypt. As soon as we arrived we went straight to a flight desk to see if we could leave the airport and maybe get to the pyramids and back. They checked our tickets and although we had economy seating the Saudi Sheik's tickets were so high-class that they arranged an airline bus for us and drove us there personally. Two of us, myself included, managed to rebook our flights and decided to brave a few sweltering days in the heart of Cairo before returning home.
It was so early in the morning that the pyramids weren't open yet (they open at 8am...does that sound ridiculous or what!?) so we were shuttled to someone's brother's uncle's perfume shop for a sniff of the local produce...
