The Island of Woman - First stop
About this blog
Finally arrived on the Island of Woman - Isla Mujeres just off the Mexican coast after a 21 hour journey and some serious jetlag on Monday and are now into the swing of island life which is pretty laid back with the odd party night here and there as we have friends already on the island!
The hostel is fun, loud, packed and party central for the island - everyone flocks here once the bars in town close and the party goes on till 3am every night at the beach bar.
The island has been explored from top to bottom via bike, which was not too hard considering its only 12km long by 1km wide, with a long spit in the middle. Although the bikes were stuck in one gear with funny high handle bars - but still an easier to ride then Claire's bike at home!
A mini lighthouse at the end gives the most amazing views of the Carribean sea - so turquoise, it almost doesn't look real! We came across a house floating on thousands of bottles built by a guy from Yorkshire, which was featured in the Daily Mail recently, so a couple of hours was spent floating on the island and exploring Richarts amazingly clever house.
Yesterday afternoon and evening there was lots of rain but I doubt it is anything like the stuff you guys are having to put up with!
Oh and for all you beer drinkers you will be impressed to know that you can pick up a beer in a bar or restaurant for a pound, but you only have the choice of 2 Sol or Corona - still not bad, apart from the fact that Claire does not drink beer so has been carrying around limes to add enough to the beer to be able to drink it as cocktails and wine are more than double the price of beer so its a bit like being a teenager again and getting used to the taste of alcohol! No cider discovered as of yet!
Now 6 hours behind the UK, so when you lot are finishing work, our day is just beginning.
Keep having fun!
Be in touch soon - moving back to the mainland of Mexico and starting to head south tomorrow x
