Visiting Villages (in Guangxi and Guizhou)

For this trip we planned to avoid the big cities and do a circuit via Guilin and Kaili, visiting three villages in particular - Chenyang in Guangxi, Zhaoqing, the biggest Dong minority village in Guizhou, and Xijiang, China's biggest Miao village.

Despite their remoteness, Zhaoxing, in particular, being difficult to get to, they do get their share of package tours, especially from France. Individual travellers like us get the benefit of facilities provided for the tour groups, especially performances of local culture.

The shortness of time (10 days) and slow travelling required to negotiate the mountain roads meant we were on the move much of the time but the scenic views and hair-raising bus rides ensured it was never tedious.
