Cross country from San Fran to New York

This opportunity presented itself quite suddenly following a rather tumultuous week. After brief consideration, the prospect of finally seeing the US from coast to coast seemed irresistible. An American style road trip right before I depart for my world development and travel expedition seemed ideal. With less than a week to get a multitude of things sorted I'm soliciting advice from friends on the best places to visit. An amazing expanse of land is about to be covered by one of my closest friends, Rikki, and me. Deciding the route and destinations along the way should be a challenge in itself.
