About this blog

This was my second Himalayan trek - a teahouse trek - flying to Lukla, then trekking - via Namche Bazaar - to Gokyo. The intention was then to cross the Cho La to Everest Base Camp and Kala Pattar. However, as I ascended I began to have difficulty breathing - later diagnosed as pulmonary oedema (HAPE). By the time I got to Gokyo I had no option but to go back down. I tried to head back up the Imja Khola valley to meet the rest of my group at Lobuche, but as I got higher my breathing got worse again - and I ended up spending a night on oxygen in Pheriche Medical Centre! Nevertheless, I still had a great trip - with fantastic scenery and wonderful hospitality from the Nepali people. Hope you enjoy the photos / diary - Rick
