About this blog

Guatemala is in Central America, between the Atlantic and Pacific, and is surrounded by neighboring countries Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. There is no summer or winter, but a dry season (December to April) and a rainy season (May to November).

I was invited by an American who lives there. He lives in the second largest city of Guatemala, Quetzaltenango (Xela) on 2.300m.

I had mixed feelings going there. On the site they wrote: "Non-essential travel to certain areas are discouraged." and "According to information available to us, there is currently a radiation hazard (in the seawater of the Pacific) as a result of the damaged nuclear power plants in Japan."

Not particularly encouraging to leave for a holiday in Guatemala.
