Even after a week of returning from Ranthambhore, it doesn't feel like we have walked anything more than a few yards out of the jungle! We had dreamt of visiting this jewel in India's wildlife treasure trove someday. Ranthambhore is, delightfully, much more than a forest. It is that rare combination of nature and history coming together, what with the flamboyant Rajasthani royalty leaving its impression in the form of an impressive fort bang in the middle of a dry, deciduous forest with a high density and variety of flora and fauna alike. It is also one of the few wildlife parks in the world where tiger sightings (and not the tiger shows!) were still a possibility - as we were to discover...
