Good bye to Saudi

About this blog

Chris, Kasja and I spent one school year in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. It wasn't our favorite post; however, as with all of our adventures in international education, we made some new friends and saw some amazing things. Saudi is a modern country with some very ancient ways. Saudi was an austere barren strip of land peopled by men in flowing robes and women in black abayas. There were the oil wells, sand, big landscapes, stifling heat and occasional camels strolling by. Cosmopolitan cities of high rise buildings, airports and mosques dotted the desert. Most of what you see in Saudi is modern because it has been build within the last 50 years and this contrasts starkly with attitudes, some which haven't changed since the 7th century AD.
