Thirty seven years ago Shane and I travelled through Europe in a Volkswagon van that wouldn't start without a jump on cold mornings. We spent months sleeping on a hill to avoid the inevitable hernia that comes with pushing that thing for miles while I tried to remember how to pop a clutch. How times have changed!

This time we will travel many of the same roads in a Renault that, if it has a problem, will be serviced for free.

You know, now that I think of it, I might miss the old days. Like bald tires, police escorts to the border, broken gas pedals, frozen water bottles, sleeping under the stars watching UFO's... Ahhh so many memories.

This will be a grown up holiday but, knowing Shane and I, it will also be an adventure.
