About this blog

My husband and I have been talking about going to the Berks Jazz Fest for years but never got around to doing it until now...Our first thought after we returned home was, why didn't we do this sooner!

Our ticketed events -

Keiko Matsui

Gerald Veasleys Sound of Philly Concert, featuring Nick Colionne, Phil Perry, Carol Riddick and Kindred the Family Soul

Incognito featuring Maysa

We planned this as a mini weekend event (2 nights), but regret that we did not add more days. What a busy but fun 2 days it was. We arrived on Friday afternoon, checked into the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and after settling into our room, we decided to explore the hotel a bit.

The Crowne Plaza is what we called the "Signature" hotel for the Berks Jazz Fest. There are other hotels in the area that are sponsors of this event, but the Crowne Plaza is where the Jam sessions and some of the shows were held as well, which not only makes for a busy hotel but convenient place to stay if you were attending any of the shows there.

When we arrived and checked into the hotel, we were greeted nicely by the front desk, and were pleasantly surprised getting a room in the Crowne Tower and receiving breakfasts passes, nice touch.

After walking around a bit, we were greeted by the hotel manager, who told us he has been hosting the Jazz Fest for more than 20 years and it showed. He was all over the place, mingling with the guests, and making sure all was running smoothly.

For the first time, the hotel was featuring a mardi grais theme in honor of the Jazz Fest. Different "New Orleans Style" food was being served such as chicken and sausage gumbo and alligator stew. We only ate the gumbo which was very tasty and it was served in a bread bowl, yummy and filling all for $10.00.

After checking out the hotel indoor pool, we sat around in the lobby people watching and sipping cocktails. The hotel has a lounge called Goodnights, but since it was reserved for shows and midnight jam sessions it was off limits if you did not have a ticket for the events.

It worked out okay, because with the mardi grai theme, there were several bars set up in the lobby which made it convenient to purchase drinks and it allowed you to mingle with other hotel guests.
