Mike's Asian Odyssey
About this blog
My travels in Asia and experiences living the life of an expat English teacher.
I had always wanted to see more of the world someday. I had been to Europe a couple of times already, so I set my sights on Asia. Feeling stuck in a rut back home, and with the economy dragging, the time was ripe for me to venture out again. Inspired by my friend Brandon who was less qualified than me when he went to Asia, I started making plans.
Some things I prepared myself for, some I did not. For instance: I DID get some inoculation shots; I did update my passport; I almost sold my car; I DID buy an excellent backpack & camera. I did not have time to pack-up the stuff in my bedroom; I did not buy an ipod; I did not cancel my car insurance or phone contract. When time gets short before a trip, some things just don't get done. I don't think you can ever be 100% prepared for an adventure, but sometimes you just have to go with what you got. Apparently it will be enough and everything has a way of working out.
So, to all of my family and friends whom I promised this web-journal... I'm sorry it took me so long to start. But I've decided to stay here in this sleepy capital of Laos until I can post some of it to you. I'll start at my current location, and fill-in more pictures and details of my journeys as I can. At least this way, I can post my current whereabouts from here on out. By the way, the dates may not be accurate...I'll edit & correct them as I can later.
