On a lark, my college friend Alex James and I decided that we would jump on a bus in Tegucigalpa and head out on a Central American tour for as long as our savings held out. We made it a month and a half before his incurable generosity (mostly in the form of buying everyone a round of Gallo at the local cantina) maxed out his credit card. I made it another couple of weeks--just long enough to see Tikal.
