Flippin' for Filipinos
About this blog
When Dave and I decide we are ready for a new adventure, I spend a lot of time looking at different locations around the world, trying to decide where we want to go this time.
We initially planned to go somewhere in the southern hemisphere until we realized that we would be arriving there during the rainy season and frankly, if I wanted to spend my time in the rain, I just need to drive to the other side of the mountains toward Seattle. I wanted sunshine and warm waters. So, we decided to narrow our destination to somewhere near the equator.
Eventually, I found myself looking at the Philippines. When I realized just how many islands make up this country--over 7,000 islands--I thought, "Whoa! This bears further investigation." I found that the Philippines are off the beaten path for most travellers--we can escape the hordes of vacationers--but it also means it's not as traveller-friendly as some of the other Southeast Asian countries. That sounded adventurous to me. Then I discovered the islands conceal hundreds of caves to explore--Dave's favorite vacation pastime these days. That settled it. The Philippines here we come!
On my list of things to do while in the Philippines: Spelunk in a variety of caves, Spy cave pythons, View the 2000 year old Ifugao rice terraces, Swim with whale sharks, See a fruit bat colony, Spot new varieties of fish and coral while snorkeling and diving, Eat the acclaimed Philippine mango--Guiness book record for sweetest, Commemorate our trip with another Tattoo.
But mostly, I'm going wide open for that experience I didn't know was coming! What will it be....
