Istanbul and Turkey for our 40th
About this blog
To celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we decided to do something we've been doing since shortly after we were married: travel. And in the spirit of always exploring the new and unknown, we selected Istanbul and Turkey as our destination. We've both been fascinated with the history and culture of Turkey (particularly Istanbul) and have nearly visited there several times, the first of which was on our big backpacking trip in 1974-75, shortly after we were married, but time constraints and logistics prevented in, until now. Like our young selves, we prepared very little in terms of itinerary, with only our flights ($216 round trip for both, thanks to airline mileage and Nancy's travel-planning ingenuity) and our stay in Istanbul arranged ahead of time. Still a couple of backpackers.
