To the Canadian and US Rockies in the middle of the post Katrina gas price surge.
About this blog
With only 2 weeks lead time, we decided to take a road trip out to the Canadian Rockies and down to Yellowstone, about 4,500 miles round trip from the Windy City, not knowing that Katrina would hit and push gas prices through the roof. Nonetheless, we left right before Labor Day, with a trunk and backseat loaded with stuff including lots of picnic supplies and reservations made for Lake Louise, Yellowstone and with friends in Wyoming but plenty of open nights. Twenty four days later we returned to Chicago in a pouring rain, having seen plenty of sunshine, some snow and rain north of the border, and all weather in between. We saw lots of beautiful scenery and our share of wildlife, quite a change of pace for two city slickers.
