Barcelona to Dublin via Madrid

Since we had to get back to the States, I checked airline fares for the OW trip. All airlines except SwissAir and AerLingus charged the full RT fare for OW. These two charged half of the RT air. We were scheduled to leave the next morning at around noon. I misread the arrival in Dublin as departure so we arrived at the airport and were directed and redirected to the gate losing time. We finally found it with 30 minutes to spare. But the gate was already closed (they close them 45 minutes before departure). Found British Air was flying to Dublin so we bought tickets. Went to check in and our bags were 12kg over the allowance. The excess baggage charge was almost as much as the 2 tickets! A bad start for our Eire trip!
