About this blog

Basically, here's the gist. I (along with my friends Ashley and Kalani) am taking the Spring 2010 semester off from studying at Niagara University and am traveling to Angers, France in order to study at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest (also known as UCO, which it will probably be referred to as of right now unless some other nickname is more suitable later on). Here, we will continue our study of the french language. Where is Angers you ask? Angers is a city in the Maine-et-Loire department in north-western France about 300 km (that's 190 miles to us Americans) south-west of Paris. This roughly translates to about an hour and a half ride to Paris via the TGV high speed train. According to Wikipedia, there are around 157,000 inhabitants, so it is a decent sized city. The inhabitants of Angers are referred to as Angevins, which is what we will be for about 5 months.

Anyway, this blog will be used for people who care to follow our Eurotrip, such as family and friends. We'll write about the good, the bad and the ugly in order to help future "study abroaders" who may want to study here. Although our primary residencies will be located in Angers, we plan to travel as much as possible, both inside and outside of France. Therefore, we hope to be helpful by listing places worth seeing, restaurants worth eating at and hostels that are worth staying at (according to our own personal opinions of course) and other things as well. Hopefully, if this all works out right, we will all individually add our own blog entries as we experience Europe, so there will be three different points of view.

So -- the trip itinerary: Ashley and I are heading out on January 25th to stay with our friend Erin in Galway, Ireland. We are flying into Dublin and then probably taking the train to get to Galway. We will stay there for about a week before traveling to France on February 1st. With that said, expect blogs to start around this time or shortly thereafter.
