About this blog

Awarded a Faculty International Exploration grant, Laura (Fine Arts professor) and I will be traveling to Florence, Italy to explore the possibilities and potential for developing a study abroad program between my Visual Communication students and her Drawing students.

My purpose for traveling to Florence, Italy and developing a study abroad opportunity for my Visual Communication students is to explore the concept of "Slow Food" as a cultural marketing approach helping to internationalize our curriculum at Lone Star College-CyFair.

The areas surrounding Florence are perfect for site visits. There is a Slow Food Association in Florence and a group called Ortobello which organizes farmers markets. We will visit and work with Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) located in the heart of Florence for both the Visual Communication and Fine Art aspects of our trip. For more information about SRISA please visit. www.santareparata.org.

SRISA has reached out to their contacts and arranged visits to the slow food offices and production locations. We will be visiting may locations in the Florence and Tuscany regions developing field trips and activities related to our perspective courses.

Join me in experiencing this wonderful opportunity!
