Jawhar - Tribal kingdom in Thane district, Maharashtra, India

Jawhar is an erstwhile tribal kingdom in Thane, about 120km north of Mumbai. It has a large population of Warli tribals in the region. Jawhar is a plateau about 600m AMSL with deep rift valleys on either side. The cliffs are densely forested, sadly the plateau is mostly denuded with monsoon paddy and grain cultivation as subsistence farming by the local tribals. In the monsoons it is waterfall paradise.
