After receiving a research scholarship to work in the Biochemistry Department at Charité-Humboldt Universtät, I spent the first summer of medical school living in Berlin. Being the first extended stay in Europe for me, I took advantage of the central location of Berlin to make weekend trips around Germany, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Poland, and Austria. The cultural beauty of central Europe and Scandinavia unfolded before my eyes. Before returning to the US, I stopped in Paris to enjoy some wine with friends.
