About this blog

This is a travel blog with pictures from my short trip to Burma. I spent 6 days there, in which I visited Rangoon, Bagan and Mount Popa.

Should you go to Burma?

I obviously answered that question for myself with "Yes, absolutely!". While some people continue to recommend a complete tourism boycott of the country, as they believe that tourism is an important source of income for the military dictatorship, the majority of human rights groups now actively support and encourage more tourists to come to Burma. And I fully agree with that view, as I think the positive impact on local people (from having contact with foreigners and by earning income from tourism) far outweighs the negative impact of any of my money going to the government (from airport and hotel taxes, entrance fees to sights, etc).

Here is a link to an interesting recent article from the Guardian summarizing the issues: www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/feb/15/should-tourists-go-to-burma?page=all
