Misadventures in Nicaragua, Costa Rica & Panama

About this blog

Our excursion to Central America covered portions of the three countries of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. We spent approximately one week in each of the three countries and in each we met our normal quota of Gary and Linda misadventures. I hope you enjoy reading about them.

Here is a brief run-down on my thoughts about the three countries:

Nicaragua was a surprise for us---a true hidden gem. While Costa Rica and Panama are not inexpensive for travelers, Nicaragua is. And it has as much, and arguably more, to offer in beaches, vistas and culture as the other two countries. We loved it.

Costa Rica is a wonderful country. It is lush and green and tropical with broad sandy beaches and spewing volcanoes. It is westernized and touristed, so travel is comfortable.

Panama doesn't have the wealth of Costa Rica, but it seems to manage it better. Panama City is the most metropolitan of Central America's major cities. Vast expanses of the country's beautiful beaches remain untouched and one hopes that future development will occur responsibly. While there are differences, we think we enjoyed Panama and Costa Rica equally.
