About this blog

On August 29th, photojournalist Chris Usher drove through Hurricane Katrina and spent the following three weeks photographing and interviewing survivors, evacuees, first responders and volunteers.

Three months later, he spent a week in New Orleans, expecting to see signs of life and recovery. Instead, he documented the lack thereof.

Usher returned to the Gulf Coast to collect more portraits and stories in February 2006.

For the one year anniversary, Usher will return to the Gulf Coast to retrace his steps. For the next 8 weeks, he and Adrienne DeArmas will travel across the U.S. to capture portraits and interviews of the evacuees who never went home and others whose lives were forever changed by Katrina.
