The Grand-Hyatt is one of the most luxurious hotels in Dubai. The foyer alone is a distinctive statement of opulence, largesse and grandeure, with its beautiful boat-shaped roof, artificial indoor jungle and enormous, intricate Arabic modern artworks.
It was a private event for one of the locals who'd returned with his PhD from a prestigious university abroad. The statues were meant as tasteful decorative pieces enhancing the classical, academic mood. A violin player walked amongst the guests as they partook from the buffet, and later there were speeches, a documentary-style video presentation and a show on stage. The guests seemed especially fascinated by the living statues as they interacted with us, giggling like children...
