Stone Gateway (Shimenkan) was an cultural and economic center of western Guizhou in the early 1900's but has now become one of the most impoverished areas in all of Guizhou.

China Now Community Project is an organization aiming to develop the quality of life in rural and minority Chinese populations through academic, vocational, spiritual, agricultural and health education by enabling the local people themselves, promoting urban volunteers and utilizing Sino-American resources.
