Pilgrimage of Thanksgiving
About this blog
This hike is intended to be a personal time of thanksgiving for God's mercy, grace, and healing from a major heart attack I experienced on the early morning of Wednesday, October 18, 2006 - a few hours prior to driving down to the United Methodist Church I was pastoring n Morton, WA.
Following my wife, Anne's rapid response in getting me to the Swedish ED on Lake Sammamish and some initial stabilization, within 90 minutes I was transported by ambulance to the Cath Lab at Swedish Cherry Hill where Cardiologist, Dr. Jeffrey Westcott and spiritual support from a precious and dear friend, Sr. Mary Clare Boland, awaited me. Throughout the surgery to insert a stent in the left descending artery, Sr. Clare was at my side, holding my hand and lifting me up in prayer.
While the heart attack resulted in my Cardiologist strongly recommending termination of my twice weekly drives to and from Morton, God opened another door to ministry just 3 miles from my home as Director of Pastoral Care at Providence Marianwood. At the end of December 2012, I will have been blessed to serve in that capacity for 6 years.
While my last big walk from July 18-25, 2012, across Washington State - from Providence St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane to Providence Marianwood in Issaquah, was a fundraiser for Marianwood - this walk is intended as a "Praise Raiser" to have others join with me in grateful thanks to God for His goodness and grace.
