My First Trip to Italy, August 1992
About this blog
After a February, 1992 trip to Amsterdam and Paris, Wendy (my first wife) and I wanted to return to Europe, and this time chose our long desired trip to Italy, this time, however, with my daughter Jennifer, a fitting graduation from high school present. In those days when we came up with an idea for a trip, we immediately went to a travel agency, this time Travel Hut, run by a very nice fellow named Myles, whom I had used many times. The trip we designed together consisted of flying into Rome, and staying for 4 nights, then Florence for 4 nights, Venice for 2, and Milan for 1 night, and then flying home from Milan. We probably would have stayed longer, but Jennifer was starting college and we had to move her from our home to her Rutgers University dorm a couple of days after our return. I recall we paid $2100 for the 3 flights, a good price now for a flight to Italy in mid summer. Myles and I planned the trip with me researching hotels, and he faxing letters to the hotels asking for rates and availability. I drove him crazy, constantly changing my mind, but he was always very amiable and friendly. The trip we took to put it simply, changed my life forever, as subsequently I took 18 additional trips to Italy, met some wonderful people over there, two of whom are now two of my closest friends, and gave me a hobby that I pursue literally and truthfully, almost every day of my life. Here is the blog of that incredible experience, 19 years later.
