Tom McLoughlin’s Top Backpacking Destinations

After finishing high school, Tom McLoughlin took a gap year vacation and ended up teaching English in Honduras for a year.

He was bitten by the travel bug and created his blog, Top Backpacking Destinations.

“I decided I wanted to share all the great experiences and knowledge I’d picked up,” Tom says. “Thus Top Backpacking Destinations was born.”

His blog is a mixed bag of destinations around the world, ranked by his own 1-10 ranking system.

So a town like Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic gets an 8.5 for being “enchanted” while hard to reach Potosi, Bolivia scores a measly 5.

Before his most recent trip, Tom found finding real, personal, travel information frustrating.

He decided that when he got back he would put all his experiences down in one place.

“It’s a work in progress, but one that I hope will help other travelers decide where to go and what to do along the way as they have their own trip of a lifetime.”
