“As a kid I loved atlases, spending hours on them,” Neha says.

“Now I write about those very places. I write about the small moments, the emotions and memories that stick with me even when the photos get old and the trip fades away. Sometimes, just sometimes, I give advice.”

She’s currently based in Zagreb, Croatia and has beautiful words for Bath, England, Vienna, Austria and Kerala, India

The Bird’s Word is a blog about all the amazing things you can see just walking around the city.

“San Jose, Costa Rica is exciting to me,” Stacey says.

“Right now in 2010, there are a number of things happening to enrich the culture and pleasantness of the city.”

She writes about the revitalization of the urban area, which will be ongoing over the next two years.

Marcia Frost travels with spirits and wine in mind

February 26, 2010

After working for three decades as a tennis writer, Marcia Frost found herself out of work.

In January of last year, she was freelancing and substitute teaching, just scraping by.

“I was telling this story at a college reunion when someone perked up and said, ‘I am the Vice President of Marketing for Distilled Spirits of the United States. I take journalists on trips to write about liquor. Would you be interested in going to Cognac?’” Marcia says.

“Of course, I was, and it all clicked in France.”

So she began traveling and writing about wine and liquor.

She began a column on Examiner.com in the summer and she started her own personal blog in January.

Marcia will be attending her first South Beach Wine and Food Festival this weekend and blogging daily.

She also regularly checks out wineries, distilleries, hotels and resorts, all so you don’t have to.

Lucky girl!

Glennia Campbell knows family travel

February 26, 2010

Back in 2005, she traveled to Louisiana to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

She started her blog, The Silent I as a way to let her local parents’ group know how her trip to St. Tammany Parrish was going.

They had made a donation of a truckload of clothes and household goods and she was responsible for getting it all there.

“After that effort, I turned my blog into a more general purpose “momblog” with a focus on family travel,” Glennia says.

“In the last year, I’ve decided to focus exclusively on travel and entertainment.”

Her family has traveled to 25 countries and 30 states since their son was born in 2000.

They’ve been to some pretty unusual places, including Greenland and Libya, along with trips to more traditional family destinations (Hawaii and Disneyland).

“Blogging has allowed me to share my passion for travel with the world, and encourage families with kids to take the plunge,” Glennia continues.

“It’s a big world, and we only have a limited amount of time here to enjoy it, so why not make the most of it?”

David and Veronica James are “gypsy nesters”

February 25, 2010

There’s a syndrome for everything these days it seems.

“Empty nest syndrome” is one of the more recent ones, and it’s definitely not one that David and Veronica James have.

Their children “left the nest” and are now off building their own nests, while this couple is busy traveling the world.

“Instead of sitting around and lamenting, we have decided to grab life by the horns, sell the nest and become GypsyNesters,” says Veronica.

Right now, they’re touring Yosemite Valley and exploring San Francisco.

They’ve got some really great photo galleries linked to their blog from Facebook as well, so check them out for a little bit of browsing goodness.

Backpack with Brock Groombridge

February 25, 2010

A recent Canadian university graduate, Brock Groombridge is heading out to see the world for a year.

He’s got 24 countries and six continents on his itinerary so far, and his blog, Backpack With Brock will chronicle every single one.

What makes Brock’s blog unique, is that it consists entirely of very well edited videos and voice overs.

His Friday 5 and The Food Byte features are hilarious.

“It’s been a crazy adventure so far as I am four countries in and having a blast.”

I also really enjoyed his post about getting to Chiang Mai, Thailand, his first visit to Asia in his life.

Diana Edelman travels ’round

February 25, 2010

She woke up one morning and realized the life she was living wasn’t the life she wanted.

Diana Edelman overcame her “30 Life Crisis” by traveling around the world and she wrote it all down in her blog, D Travels Round.

Diana Edelman

“I share it all,” she says. “from loves lost to the best places to visit, to misadventures and the importance of asking questions, readers come along and are a fly in the wall as I learn about the places I visit and the lessons I learn.”

The Adventures of D begins in Croatia and continues through her planning of long-term travel and resigning from her public relations job.

She plans on writing about her actual trip (which begins March 7 and goes through September).

So follow along with Diana as she learns, lives and grows on her travels ’round.

Keith and Amy Sutter Go In Search of Green Around the Globe

February 25, 2010

After taking a year long hiatus from their jobs in marketing and real estate law, Keith and Amy Sutter are now five months and 11 countries into their trip.

They write their blog, Green Around the Globe to share stories of unique cultures and environmental sustainability practices around the world.

Keith and Amy Sutter

It’s a unique blend of travel stories, tips and advice.

“Some of our favorite posts deal with a diverse range of topics from strange caffeinated drinks, sustainability symbols and certifications,” Keith says, “to our most recent post on getting outside your comfort zone.”

They’re having tons of fun exploring and adventuring around Asia right now, but I’m looking forward to what the remaining seven months of their journey will bring.

Great work guys!

Vyt Karazija’s thoughts on Bali

February 25, 2010

A self-described “chaotic tapestry of expat life in Bali”, Vyt Karazija started his blog, Borborigmus in Bali, after he moved there.

Even though he’s been to Bali over 20 times already, living there as an expat is different.

Vyt Karazija

“I have a lot to learn in this deeply flawed, yet incredibly rewarding paradise, and I am sharing the journey through my blog,” Vyt says.

His blog is also published weekly in the Bali Times newspaper.

I just love his descriptive way of relating stories about the Indonesian island.

For example, his writing is interesting and informative in his contemplation about the scarcity of money in Bali and in his ruminations about the rest of the culture there.

“Bali plays host to some of the most delightfully absurdist examples of officialdom, traffic planning, tourist antics and expat life to be found anywhere,” Vyt continues.

“It is a sprawling, brawling, spiritual, commercial, beautiful, crass, sublime, ugly, busy and peaceful island. It provides endless fodder for my hobby of observing people and their dynamic interplay with the social fabric here.”

Andrew Hickey’s The Brooklyn Nomad

February 24, 2010

March 1 is The Brooklyn Nomad’s first year anniversary.

I decided I should be one of the first to congratulate him at a job well done.

Andrew Hickey

His blog has grown tremendously in the past year and it’s obviously because he’s done a great job on the content side of things.

“My blog is updated 3-4 times per week and includes informative stories about not only New York attractions, but follows my travels around the world,” Andrew says.

“As a travel blogger that is lucky enough to get paid for doing what I love, people have seemed to take a liking to my blog and for that I am appreciative.”

He’s got New York City covered like a wet blanket.

Just have a look at the places he highlights on his blog and tell me you don’t want to take the next flight over there.

He’s also got some really cool slideshows to check out before you go to Poland, Washington state or England.
