Roni,
Hello! Hows it going in Colorado Springs???
We are in Munich right now and heading to Innsbruck tomorrow. I will definitely look/ask for the statue (do you know which square?). Send me your address...via my direct email, not on this public forum...and I will try & find a post card or if I find the statue myself, I will email a picture to you.
Thanks for the Austrian/Hungarian Empire info... love all the personal stories & links to these places we visit...makes it so much more interesting.
Keep in touch!
PS. I should have my Amsterdam (as well as Berlin and Prague) info up as soon as the 'travelpod' people tell my why the 'photo weaving' wasnt working?...and you are right, Amsterdam was a blast!

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I think what you and your daughter are doing is wonderful. I took my son to New Orleans for his 12th birthday (just the 2 of us). He'll be 19 this year and we both still treasure that special adventure together.

The places you're going and the things you two are seeing are so important and beautiful. I am INSANELY ENVIOUS (especially about Florence and Venice for the art and Innsbruck, where my family is from). When you go to Innsbruck, look for the large statue of Andreas Hofer in the park or town square. He was a patriot, leading the fight against Napoleon. Eventually, he was betrayed by a neighbor and put to death after a court martial. In 1818 the Emperor of Austria bestowed a 'patent of nobility' upon our family (the title is 'Zell', hence the new name: Zellhofer) and there is even a stamp with his picture on it and a play done each year honoring his deeds! I'd love a picture of the statue if you see it and have the time (maybe?...please?...)

Can't wait to hear how Amsterdam was! I'll bet it was just crazy!! :) Hope all is still going well and that you both are safe and having a blast. Have a wonderful time.

Love,
Roni
