Well thanks Belgian trains. Theywere pretty happy to book me on the Train that left Liege for Zorich via Koln and Mannheim. What they didn't bother to tell me was that I would have to pay a supplement for the train rides in Germany- a full fare Supplement.

I only found out when the conductor did a double -take on my Ticket and said that it was not Valid for travel in Germany! Well I sweet-talked her try Pointing Out that I was travelling from Belgium to Switzerland and was only crossing Germany because the Allies had stupidly left it in the way after the second World War. She left Me alone after that?
Back she came 15 minutes later with the train Manager. He was pretty sure that I was trying to pull the wool over Deutsch Rail, and went awey with my ticket.

Back came the first Condoctor with the Conditions of travel on my ticket Underlined In the English Section. And she kindly told Me that it was ok until Mannheim. But after that, I had to buy a Supplement from Mannheim to Basel. To get me out of Germany!

On the downside, there Was only 2O mins to get off, get the ticket and get to the train. And of Course I struck a trainee at the ticket window. Litterally!

I knocked a cardboard stand onto her as I walked up to her booth. I Said I was sorry but she just kept her Stoic Germanic face on and took as much of my 2O Mins as she Could. Panicing I ran for the train at the far end of the platform, which is no mean feat with 32 kg or poorly packed baggage ( you ore more wonderful than you know Mish! )

As luck world haVe it, those incredible German trains were running late today. So I then had 15 minutes to get my breath back in the beautiful Mannheim HBf-.
