It was hard to pull ourselves away from Cafe Kevah, but we moved on eventually, heading to Pfeiffer Beach. It was not as difficult to find as expected (good directions from the Lonely Planet) but it was not a pleasant drive getting there, as it was a very bumpy one lane road for 2 miles. But it was well worth the bumpy ride and the $5 fee, as the beach was just outstanding! There were hardly any people there, we were oftentimes all alone! The beach was pristine, and the rock formations impressive. It is difficult to argue with such art created by nature. Most interesting was the sand.... it was purple!!!

I could have stayed at the beach forever, but we had to move on eventually, where our next stop was the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. We were there to see the McWays waterfall, which is a year-round 80ft waterfall dropping straight into the ocean, via a scenic beach. It was a picture perfect scene.

We did however feel slightly cheated. The fee for the park was $10, which we were happy to pay. However, except for the Waterfall trail, all the trails in the park were closed due to fire damage. I don't think it is reasonable to charge the full fee when practically the entire park is closed! It was no wonder that there were so many cars parked just outside the park as the Waterfall trail is not far from the entrance and would have easily been accessible from outside the park on foot. Oh well.... let’s just see it as our contribution towards the rebuilding of the park.
