Today we had a great trip through the Yorkshire Dales, a delightful area of small villages and hamlets that wrap up and down through hills and valleys of green pastures where sheep graze. The roads are one lane with hand built stone walls on either side.  We sidled up behind a large garbage truck today and the garbage man jumped out of the truck on a down hill road.  All of a sudden the truck started to roll forward and I start saying "oh no, oh no the garbage truck is rolling down the hill".  I am thinking the garbage man forgot to put the emergency brake on.  Gordon started to laugh and he said think what side the truck is being driven from Vicki!  I realized I had seen the garbage man get out on the left side and the vehicle was being driven from the right side!  A similar incident occurred earlier in our trip when a guy cut Gordon off and then up aways pulled over and I saw a very young boy get out of the left hand side of the car.  I indicated the boy looked to young to have been driving and perhaps that was why he cut Gordon off.  Again Gordon reminded me of the side of the car that the driver was using.  I just can't get used to this!  This a long with many different expressions used here has been fun.  Believe it or not people think I have an accent and most people think I am Canadian.  When I ask where the restroom it this seems a dead give away as they call it the Loo, Powder room, or just plain Toilet here in the UK.

Yesterday I met a very fit man who Gordon had witnessed changing his clothes in the parking lot prior to his hike.  He was down to his "bare essentials" shall we say.  Anyway I was not privy to the show but later the man engaged me in quite a bit of conversation about the area attractions.  Every time I tried to disengage he immediately started another conversation.  This has happened many times since I have been here.  People in Europe love to talk with others from abroad.  Everyone is very friendly and we have enjoyed interacting with the locals.

We toured the Yorkshire Dales today and saw so many beautiful places which I am enclosing some photo's of.  It was a long day, starting at 9:00 and arriving at our hotel at 6:00 PM after enduring a long traffic jam.  We had just enough time to shower and change for dinner with the Austins.  It was wonderful to see Margaret and Barry again and we had a nice long dinner with them which was very enjoyable.  We are planning to walk their poodles on the bay Promenade right outside our hotel in the morning and drop our laundry off to be laundered and then spend time with the Austins.  This is a lovely little respite from our traveling and we are anxious to see Bert's Mother Katy and his son Leicester.  I plan to get some photo's of the dogs to add to the blog.

Gordon is getting a much deserved day off tomorrow!  Today he took us to Fountains Abby which was beautiful.  It was very peaceful and so green.  This Abby was built in the 1100's by Monks and it was the riches Abby of that time period.  Again Gordon was able to drive right to an entrance and drop us off close so Glenn would not have to walk so far.  Glenn got a lot of photographs of the Dales this morning and the weather has been beautiful as you will see by the pictures I am attaching.

We arrived at the Midland hotel and were amazed by the beautiful room we have on the top floor.  It is huge and has a full length balcony overlooking Morecombe Bay.  The Sunset tonight was spectacular and we are really enjoying relaxing in the room this evening.  It has a big screen TV and two lounge chairs and we are feeling spoiled.  We here a lot of American news on the BBC and watch the evening news when we can.  The last two days the weather has been beautiful and we expect great weather over the coming weeks.

On the front page you will see Glenn and our Driver/Tour Guide, Gordon from G&C Touring Company, based in Edinburgh, Scotland.  We highly recommend his services.
