Hortalizas Paccha Uchuari, that's the name of my first small business to take off in my time in Ecuador. it is a family of around 17 members. it's an organic farm that sells a ton of different products. we have been working together every week for about three months. they already knew that they had a great, healthy product, and they came to me in order to organize them into an official business. So, i came in and taught them a sequence of business practices such as management, operations, organization, marketing, accounting, production, etc. After gaining confidence and proceeding with an intensive marketing campaign, they augmented their production and sales 600% and now are contracted by several groceries. they are at maximum production and now are contracting other families of the community to help them out. this is my ultimate goal of my work with these communities. to involve as much of the community as possible in increasing the well being of the families.

I am also working on a pig and chicken raising project with a group of mothers, another pig raising project, another chicken project and a bakery and organic pesticide and fertilizer project.

Plus, in San Lucas, an indigenous community to the north which is very close to my heart, i have begun a health and nutrition campaign with the goal of producing more nutrious agricultural products.

As many of you know, I'm a boy from the suburbs who's closest experience with agriculture was mowing my parents' lawn. Over the last 6 months i have been studying and attending workshops on organic agriculture and raising animals. Also, i've been in close contact with all of my fellow volunteers who have been more than hepful. it has become a new passion of mine. I have gone so far as to design my own mini-green house on the back deck of my apartment.
