Quote of the day: (Emilia on Lombard Street, the "Crookedest" Street) "I thought it was going to be a straight shot." Urban legend: Lombard Street is neither the steepest nor the crookedest, just the most well-known.
We had a nice day--a little driving, a leisurely stop in Old Sacramento (including a visit to our favorite shop-Evangaline's), and on to San Francisco where we attempted the 49-mile scenic drive, and ended up eating at the very nice Ristorante Cinqueterre. Well, apparently smart Alecks regularly steal the scenic drive signs, but we managed to see most of the sights anyway--authentic San Francisco cable cars, view to Alcatrez Island and the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf, Twin Peaks, Russian Hill, Haight-Ashbury, Chinatown, North Beach.
The kids are soundly sleeping as we write this, with visions of Monterey Bay dancing in their heads. I can't believe it--two more days and we'll be home in San Diego.
