We arrived in Lake Tahoe last night before 10:00 and woke up to see the lake out our lodge window.
What can we say about Yosemite? Its rare beauty makes you feel like you just stepped into an Ansel Adams photograph. We woke up on Sunday morning in Oakdale, and the kids went swimming in the pool before we headed up to the Park. Emilia and Nikola learned to dive! The temperature was already at 95F by 10:00 a.m. It was going to be a very hot day. Since we had so little time to enjoy Yosemite, we opted for the 2-hour valley tour. We rode in open air busses to all of the waterfalls, stopping to dip our feet in the cool rivers and enjoy the wonderful vistas. We learned that Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America. We learned that although called "black" bears, the Yosemite bears can also be brown and blonde. We were also shown the old, narrow stage coach road. We were told that if two stage coaches met on the road going in opposite directions, each party would have to completely disassemble, move, and reassemble the coach! This could take 4-8 hours. We drove out through Tioga pass, where it had just rained, and Zrinko saw lightening. Going out of the park, at about 9000 feet elevation, there were patches of snow.
