Well, today was a real fiordland storm. Chris said this is not as bad as it can get, but it was pretty rough and rainy all day long. We had hoped to take the little boat out into the river, but it just poured and poured, then the wind really started to blow hard. It even blew some of the waterfalls straight back up the mountains! We waited it out until lunch, then tried to go out to the sea again to find some seals. But when we got to the mouth of the sound, it was really roaring and choppy, so we turned back in and tried to fish some. But a barracuda kept biting off our lines - he bit Dad and Mom's clean off, so we left. Just before we left, we spotted the dolphins, beautiful bottle-nose ones!
It was a huge pod of about forty and they swam all around us, jumping up out of the water and leaping around and swimming right to the boat. It was an amazing sight to see and we were the only boat around. In fact, we have only seen two other boats the whole day. It is very quiet here in the Doubtful Sound, except for the rain and animals. We saw two more deer but Chris did not shoot them because it was a mother and fawn. And we searched for the crested penquins but most of them have gone out to sea.
We did catch seven more huge crayfish, so we will have a great dinner again. Tomorrow we leave the boat and head back to Queenstown and more adventures in New Zealand. Hopefully there will be more snow on the mountains!!!
