It has been a great few days on Lord Howe Island, but the very best part has to be snorkeling here. Yesterday afternoon, after my mom and dad got back from hiking up Mt. Gower (very steep, so Lu and I stayed with Sam, the nice lady who works at Arajilla and she took us to Ned's Beach to feed fish!), Dean, the man who took Mom and Dad up Mt. Gower invited us to go snorkeling. He took us to the very best spot on the island and it was incredible!!!
We jumped out and as soon as I look in the water, I saw hundreds of fish, whole schools of different kinds of them, huge doubleheaders, parrot fish (that are rainbow colored), bluefish, angel fish, and so many other kinds. The coral is so big and so many different colors too - purple, blue, green. It was a little creepy, because I also saw three huge Galapagos sharks circling under the boat. Dean told us they were not dangerous but they still look super scary
Today we did a big hike up to Kim's Lookout. It was a tough climb up - first we had to ride our bikes to the path, then we hike up a steep very green pasture, then up and down over rocks and past sheer cliffs to the lookout. On the way, I saw lots of huge golden orb spiders - the females are big and the males are tiny. I even watched one catch a bee and start wrapping it up to eat it.
At the summit, we had a picnic and looked at the view all the way down the island and watched the terns. The terns are solid white with bright red beaks and red pintails. We took a photo with the Kim's Lookout sign for our friend, Kim, who just got a new kidney and pancreas, too. I hope she likes it and it makes her feel better!
The hike back down was much easier and we all got ice cream in the village before Dad and I went off to play touch football. There is a pickup game every Wednesday at 4PM.

Family snorkeling!
. Dad and I found a butterfly cod - very dangerous - just sitting on the bottom. And we saw an eel, which was black and white and keep opening his mouth and hissing at us (I think!). We got to watch the movie "Splash" last night and being under the water here feels like being in the movie. I could have snorkeled all day and all night!Today we did a big hike up to Kim's Lookout.
