Happy Birthday Mom!!!

New Years Eve is my mom's birthday - the last day of the year. It is also my grandfather's birthday, her dad. Every year when we are in South Africa, my mother climbs Lion's Head for her birthday (usually after a long run there!). This year, I climbed it with her for the first time! Dad and Su and I met Mom at the base of Lion's Head, which is the smaller mountain next to Table Mountain. My mom climbed Lion's Head the morning I was born, too, and she and Dad have climbed it lots of times. They love it. Today, Ashlyn and Paul and Lucille also met us and climbed up, which was fun. At first, it was hard and hot, but after a few minutes, it got easier and fun. At one point, you have to climb up with chains - I did not think I could do it at first, but I did! From the top, you can see all over Cape Town. You can see out to the hospital where I was born, out to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was in prison, down to Camps Bay where we used to live, down to Paul and Lucille's house, to the new stadium they are building for the World Cup in 2010, and to the Waterfront and Cape Town city, and of course over to Table Mountain. It is a great, great view! It was perfect today!

My mom was going to also climb Table Mountain today but it was way too crowded with cars and people, so we went back to Llandudno and hung out at the beach and did lots of boogie boarding! Winston came with Andrew and me and we had so much fun in the waves.

Tonight, we had a New Year's Eve/Birthday Party at our house. Winston and his parents came over, and Lucille and Paul, and Ashlyn and Sienna. We hung out and watched Prince Caspian. Then we had a great huge dinner and ate chocolate cake with ice cream and whipped cream for my mom's birthday!

At midnight, the kids did the countdown and at the leap second (there was an extra second this year because we got behind for some reason), all the boys leaped in the swimming pool! It was cold but fun! We shouted and Dad had some fireworks, too! It was the first time I have ever stayed up for midnight and I was very glad I did. But right after, I fell fast asleep!

PS: If you are wondering why there are no photos lately, it is because our computer is not letting us download photos. We are taking it to the shop this week to see if they can fix it. Sorry!
