Tonight, after lunch and a swim, we went on a camel ride in the Thar Desert, which is a scrub desert mostly except for some sand dunes. There were lots of camels (they are actually dromedaries, like in Morocco. The only camels in India are in the Himalayan area in the north.) and people. But I got to steer my own camel and I got to run! It was very bumpy but I could hold on. At the top, Tallulah and I slid down the dunes and made sand angels. Only male camels are used for rides - females are just used for milk and breeding and sometimes for light loads.
There were kids dancing on the top of the dunes - doing the local dance and kids selling Pepsis and chips. Lu danced with the girls for a while. Best of all, I got to gallop on my camel with another boy, and gallop back. Tonight there is almost a full moon over the desert - we sat outside for dinner to watch it rise over us. I am trying lots of new foods, but mainly I like the chapatis and naan, which are both like pancakes, the rice, and the rice dessert.
