Having been awake all night on the night bus from Bangkok we arrived in Chumphon at 5.30am, it was still dark as we settled into our deck chairs for a snooze. A rain shower clattered against the tent style roof and we waited for the catamarang to take us over to Ko Tao. It was a long walk down the rickety wooden pier, and an almost impossible feat for the wheeled suitcase brigade who held everyone else up as their wheels got stuck between the wooden planks.  We got on the boat and settled down in the lower middle area.

Well, I don't normally get motion sickness but this journey was baaaaadd, we were being thrown about a LOT, and I felt pretty nauseous. Many of the people around me were being sick, and I doubt it helped that they were showing a food program of Gordon Ramsey touring SE Asia and eating spiders, snakes, crickets etc. I had to sit with my eyes closed as I couldn't watch this tv spectacle and I couldn't look out the window at the horizon bouncing around all over the place either, nor could I look at everyone being sick, so I closed my eyes and concentrated very very hard on not being sick. It worked, but I felt dreadful for the whole 2 hour trip and at least half an hour after we landed. In fact I don't think I felt quite right all day!

We checked into Ban's Diving Resort where Shelley had signed up for a diving course which also meant she got free accommodation and transfers from Bangkok. We had a twin room with a tv and a fan, also a balcony, up near one of the two pools.

We went over to the posh restaurant and had something to calm the stomach - in my case a cup of tea.
I was also over the moon to have a weight off my mind as a guy who Andrew thinks is lovely has agreed to be my lodger.
